Use a stable prompt set
Do not judge visibility from one answer. Build a fixed set of commercial, comparison, local, educational, and brand prompts, then run the same prompts over time.
- Include prompts buyers would actually ask before choosing a vendor.
- Track brand mentions, brand citations, competitor mentions, and cited sources.
- Separate prompt tracking from website readiness scoring.
Start with ChatGPT tracking
For now, a useful report can stay focused on OpenAI/ChatGPT prompt runs. It should still preserve the model, prompt, response, citations, and whether the brand appeared so results can be compared over time.
- Record the exact prompt and model for every run.
- Store citations separately from answer text.
- Treat missing API keys or blocked calls as skipped data, not zero visibility.
Use trends, not snapshots
AI answers vary. The goal is to spot movement: more brand mentions, better cited sources, fewer irrelevant competitors, and stronger conversion quality from AI referral traffic.
- Compare runs month over month.
- Look for source patterns that can be improved with content or PR.
- Pair prompt tracking with analytics and lead quality, not vanity mentions alone.
